Additional Information

Volunteer addition – the above explanation is about how they have always celebrated the holiday using the eastern Orthodox calendar, and so it’s been January 7. Their holiday season begins with a new year celebration and ends with their Christmas.

Thank You

This is a Ukrainian family new to Stoughton. I am a volunteer helping them to fill this application. They arrived here with next to nothing, but they do have an apartment and now have a vehicle. Asking for anything from this program has been hard because they feel they have already received so much community help, and they are overwhelmed by the generosity of so many. This is their first Christmas anywhere other than their homeland. Their son also turns 14 just before Christmas, another momentous milestone.
As they wait for work permits, it continues to be a very unsure time. The parents asked to include the following note:

We cannot have words for everything that has been given. We have to wait to work to buy things ourselves. We are grateful more than just writing can tell you. We never thought to be here in Wisconsin in our lives. We will give back your kindness a thousand more times. We hope for you a most special and happy Christmas. We are celebrate December 25 first time because we always celebrate 7 January. In Ukraine we say Веселих свят! (Veselykh Svyat) to others and we say Христос народився! (Khrystos narodivsya) and the others say to us Cлавімо його! (Slavimo yoho).
